On August 21, 2024, the USFS provided an update on hiking trail closures in the Sam Houston National Forest. Many sections of the trail are now open for use; however, use caution--the trail may be rough, blocked, or encroached. USFS and Volunteer work teams are working to clear trail as resources permit.
Please be advised access is not permitted and the following trail sections are CLOSED.
- Double Lake Recreation Area to Trailhead #14 (including all loop trails in Big Creek Scenic Area)
- The intersection of Lone Star Hiking Trail & Little Lake Creek Loop to Forest Service Road 271 (Kelly Pond Road)
