Volunteering is a tangible way to make a difference in the community.  It is rewarding, fun, satisfying, and sometimes fatiguing.  Much of the ongoing trail maintenance work is carried out by volunteers, and if you are inclined to help out once or twice a year, or every week, we can help you get plugged in.

Volunteer Highlights (PLEASE NOTE:  Changes for 2025-2026!)

  • All interested persons (Members & Non-Members) may Volunteer
  • You need to agree to the Volunteer Code of Conduct (USFS Expectations for Volunteers)
  • You need to be fit enough to carry out the work for the day.  Some workdays are very physical; others are not.
  • We require you complete the Volunteer Registration Form each year (October 1) or when you first seek to volunteer.
  • You must sign up on a planned event led by a trained Service Project Leader

Volunteer Service Agreement (On Sam Houston Trails Coalition Website)

The Sam Houston Trails Coalition has been assigned responsibility to manage the Volunteer Service Agreement process with the USFS.
The process is much simpler this year.

  • If you hold an approved Volunteer Service Agreement (October 2024-October 2025), you will not have to complete a VSA form with the USFS/Coalition this year.  In fact you do nothing regarding VSAs!
  • If you are a new or lapsed volunteer, please FIRST visit the Sam Houston Trails Coalition  Website and complete a VSA according to instructions there.
  • If you are minor under 18 years of age, you will need an individual VSA form.  Visit the Sam Houston Trails Coalition  Website and complete a VSA according to instructions there.

Complete Volunteer Registration Form (Club Website)

  • All volunteers for Club Workdays must complete the Volunteer Registration Form.  When you click the link, Club Members may be asked to sign-in to Club Express first.  Returning non-members will be prompted to enter your name and email.
  • This form will be required annually on or about October 1 of each year, or when you first decide to volunteer.
  • No more electronic signatures!  A few minutes and you are ready to volunteer for a year!
